At Mentara, learning is about more than academic success — it’s about helping each student build confidence, independence, and curiosity to grow as lifelong learners. Our programs are designed to support the whole learner, combining academic instruction with evidence-informed strategies that nurture mindset, motivation and self-awareness leading to improved meta-learning skills.
All Mentara sessions are offered in 1:1 or small-group formats, available both in-person and online to fit each learner’s needs and comfort.
Subject Mastery & Strategy (Grades 9–12)
Each session blends concept reinforcement with targeted strategies to strengthen understanding, memory, organization, analytical thinking, test readiness, and awareness of one’s own learning process.
Students learn to:
- Break down complex concepts into manageable steps.
- Apply problem-solving techniques with confidence.
- Identify their learning strengths and challenges.
- Develop effective note-taking, organization, and time management skills.
- Use reflection to track growth and progress.
- Build independence in learning new material.
Available formats: 1:1 personalized sessions or small-group (2–5 learners) collaborative sessions.
Foundations Program for Junior Learners
Focus: Building academic confidence, motivation, and independent learning habits
The Foundations Program is designed for younger students who are developing core skills in literacy, numeracy, science and self-directed learning. Each session nurtures curiosity and strengthens foundational academic skills through engaging, multisensory activities
Students are encouraged to explore, ask questions, and develop a positive attitude toward learning that prepares them for success in later grades.
Students learn to:
- Strengthen reading comprehension and basic math skills.
- Develop attention, organization, and early study habits.
- Build confidence and a sense of achievement through guided practice.
- Foster curiosity and a love of learning.
Available formats: 1:1 personalized sessions or small-group (2–5 learners) collaborative sessions.
University of Waterloo Math Competition Practices
This program is designed for students who enjoy challenges and want to strengthen their analytical thinking skills through preparation for the University of Waterloo Mathematics Contests — including the Pascal, Cayley, Fermat, and Euclid contests. Students work through past contest problems and learn advanced problem-solving techniques that go beyond the standard curriculum.
Students learn to:
- Approach unfamiliar and multi-step problems with confidence.
- Apply mathematical concepts in creative and efficient ways.
- Build precision, speed, and critical reasoning skills.
- Develop perseverance and flexibility when solving challenging questions.
Available formats: 1:1 enrichment coaching or small-group (2–5 learners) practice sessions.
Special Education Support
Focus: Early literacy and numeracy, functional academics, and social development
Mentara provides individualized support for learners with diverse needs, emphasizing strengths, independence, and connection. Our special education programs are built on active partnership with families, recognizing that meaningful progress happens when educators and caregivers work together to support the whole child.
- 1:1 Early Numeracy and Literacy — Designed for younger learners or those needing foundational support in reading, writing, and numeracy. Instruction incorporates hands-on, multisensory activities to build early academic confidence.
- 1:1 Functional Academics — For students focusing on life-centered learning such as money skills, time, communication, and practical problem-solving — taught through real-world applications.
- Social Skills Groups — Small, guided sessions that help students develop communication, collaboration, and emotional regulation in a supportive environment. Activities are structured to promote confidence, empathy, and connection with peers.
Program Formats
- 1:1 Personalized Sessions — Tailored instruction designed to meet the individual learner’s goals, pace, and interests. Ideal for students who benefit from focused, one-on-one guidance.
- Small Group Sessions — Interactive learning experiences (2–5 students) where learners build skills together while receiving targeted support. Encourages collaboration, discussion, and peer confidence.
- Flexible Delivery — All programs are available in-person and online, offering families the freedom to choose the learning environment that works best for them.
